Marc's Day Trip to Putah Creek
Putah
Creek Nymphing - February, 2002
The
tailwater fishery of Putah Creek benefits from the stable
supply of low temperature water and probably contains the
largest population of wild trout within the bay area. Fish
averaging 14 - 16" and regularly growing more than 20"
are regularly caught & released.
However,
it is a difficult place to fish well. The 3 mile stretch of
river is loaded with tight brush and close quarters fishing.
If you are interested in learning secrets of this river, we
recommend our "On The
Water" Putah Creek Nymph Clinic.
During
the flies only November - March period, it is an incredible
fishery for rainbow and brown trout. Marc
has developed some midge patterns for Putah Creek which he
fished here to great success.

This
one was still hungry when Marc brought it up for the camera,
before releasing it back to the stream.

In
the detail shot left, you can get an idea of the sizes Marc
prefers. These midge patterns have been extremely effective
up on the Putah.

A
couple more bright rainbows caught and released during the day.

And
of course, the prettiest rainbow trout of the day. |
